Sohan Ko
I was born in 1972 in Hong Kong. I was always drawn to the remote forests and beaches surrounding the densely populated city, completing my masters in Chinese literature while living by myself in a second-story flat overlooking a banyan tree, on the tiny car-free island of Peng Chau.
In my 30s I left Hong Kong, travelling through Tibet, China, Mongolia, Scandinavia, Peru, India and finally settling in Bella Coola, BC where I found solace in the old growth temperate rainforests. In 2006, my husband and I moved to Nelson, BC.
Many experiences influence my painting style today: spending hours as a child beside my brother as he painted with oil, practicing classical Chinese calligraphy as a teenager, and exploring forests and mountains as an adult. I love vibrant colours and the richness of oil paint, and I am drawn to the limitlessness of imaginary landscapes.
Sohan is a painter, psycho-spiritual integrative and addiction recovery coach, Buddhist meditation practitioner, and mother of two boys.
